The students really liked this lesson. They thought the food coloring activity was super cool (and some even used the toothpicks afterwards to make really pretty patterns on the milk), liked playing with the "cheese", and were very excited about making their own butter and then getting to taste it on crackers. It was also nice that the butter activity used up some of their energy, because they have a lot!

This lesson went extremely well! The students loved playing with the food dye spreading across the water or milk with soap and made their own art with it. By the end of the lesson, they actually remembered what surface tension was ... wow! Eating and learning at the same time is completely possible!
